The Stockholm East operational area includes the two closed prisons Österåker and Täby. Here, we primarily employ correctional officers, but also healthcare personnel, teachers, administrators, production leaders, and other important professional groups. The clients at the prisons are engaged in various activities such as education, treatment programs, workshop work, as well as assembly and packaging tasks – all aimed at creating structure, meaning, and conditions for a better future.

Österåker prison is in an exciting expansion phase with new prison places and employment facilities set to be operational between 2025 and 2027. There are good opportunities to grow with the organization – both in terms of the number of employees and in new, exciting roles. The prison is located outside Åkersberga – perfect for those who appreciate avoiding rush hour traffic. Car is the easiest way to get here. Täby prison is a small facility with a family-like environment and good commuting options. Both prisons offer staff parking.

We care about a health-promoting work environment – therefore, there is a staff gym at Österåker prison. There is also a popular staff restaurant where you can eat and socialize with your colleagues.

RESPONSIBILITIES

As a correctional officer, you are the foundation of the security work. You work in teams with other professional groups to maintain a safe and secure operation and motivate clients towards a life without crime. The role of a correctional officer involves a structured and routine-based approach with a focus on risk assessment and security awareness.

Clear routines are a natural part of your daily work. You are the one who opens the cell door in the morning and locks it in the evening. You accompany clients to work and education, search and supervise the recreation yard and training facilities. You have daily contact with clients to know how they are doing, and you are part of the release preparations. The work is varied, and there are many development opportunities for those who want to grow within the authority.

Your probationary employment is for six months and begins with three weeks of local introduction at the workplace, followed by work in your regular position for a few months. During this period, we will also schedule when you will start Kriminalvården's mandatory basic training. We continuously assess your work, and if everything goes well, the probationary period will transition to a permanent position after six months.

QUALIFICATIONS

Your personal qualities are important. As a correctional officer, you need to be secure, stable, have good self-awareness, sound judgment, and integrity. Together with your colleagues, you drive the operations, so you need to have good collaboration skills and be clear in your communication. It is important that you share Kriminalvården's fundamental values of a humane view of people, respect for the individual, and belief in the potential for development and change. The position requires that you have good physical ability to handle situations that may arise in the work and to perform the physical tasks included in the training.

We are looking for someone who has:

• Completed high school education or equivalent education combined with work experience
• Work experience, including seasonal work, part-time employment, or self-employment
• Good knowledge of the Swedish language in both speech and writing
• Good computer skills

It is an advantage if you have:

• Knowledge in relevant fields, such as behavioral science, criminology, psychiatry, law, and conflict management
• Work experience from corrections, service professions, security work, social care, psychiatry, or health and care work
• Language skills beyond Swedish

OTHER

Kriminalvården has chosen to remove the personal letter and replaced it with selection questions relevant to the position. The answers to the selection questions and CV will form the basis for whether you are qualified to proceed in the process.

Some positions are placed in a security class, and a security review with a background check will be conducted before a hiring decision is made.
